Hi everybody. I am a pet lover and have reciently found out that my cocker spaniel lady has a rare form of lymphoma. Her prognosis isn't good. In fact she has gone through three bouts of chemotherapy and will only go through two more. The doctors say that this is all they can do. Even with the chemo her chances of surviving more then a year is slim. Has anyone dealt with losing a pet from cancer? Thanks for your time.
Hi. Firstly, sorry to hear about your dog. I've never lost a pet from cancer, but I know what it's like to have almost lost a pet whom I was very close to. Jubilee had gotten ticks so bad that I thought she would die because she could hardly move. She had to get a blood transfusion for it, and after that we make sure none of our dogs go under the house. Now, I lost her recently, but it was because someone took her. I'm just hoping she's being well taken care of.

ohh no my thoughts are with you ...
Sadly we lost Ardeth's a 1st beared collie Fingal to cancer
8yrs ago it was it was damned hard because we did not have the courage to us the option of euthanasia and we bitterly regretted it for a long time afterwards..the best thing you can do in the early stages is be more aware of his energy level, and appetite, this may sound simple, but many dogs try to continue in their old ways and they are extremely adept at fooling their owners, often they become more reliant on thier primal instincts,in the wild a dog who shows any sign of weakness is in trouble..so you need to be extra vigilent and reassuring as she will be worried as to her place in the pack...but try also to treat her as you always did spoil her and make the most of having her around...
Goblin: Thanks for your response. I have already begun to watch her energy level. So far things seem all right though she is more tired then usual. However, I can't let myself dwell on things like this for things are difficult is it is. Did you get another pet after the one who died? I already know that my family will not get another one after lady goes. This hurts, but soon I will be on my own for good and will be able to indulge in my favorite pet.
no problem ...Hmm it's very hard to cope with but she needs careful monitoring yes we found it almost impossible at times dealing with Fingal's illness as he was only 9...and 5 weeks later we came home with Dougal another brown Bearded Collie pup, after vowing never to have another dog..maybe in time you will feel differently and the idea of a new dog wont seem unfair, many owners feel they are being disloyal to their pet's memory...
